This blog’s been pretty quiet for the past few months because I’ve been on sabbatical since the end of last year. I’ve used the time to write 55,000 (of 70,000) words for a proposed book entitled Prophet, Priest, and King: A Brief Theology of Emotion, Mission, and Work. It’s already caught the eye of a broker for a mainstream publisher. Here’s the current blurb:“The offices of prophet, priest, and king are used to explore the corresponding theologies of mission, emotion, and work. Like three primary colours they paint a picture of the Christian life. But whereas Christian life seeks to integrate them, public life separates mission and emotion from work. Since mission and emotion form virtue, this separation is particularly pertinent at a time when virtue seems lacking from the public sphere. The relationship between mission and emotion is equally crucial: it is difficult to tell someone that their sins are forgiven if we ourselves are struggling to forgive them. Finally, unlike mission, work and emotion are scantily serviced by theology. Therefore, Prophet, Priest, and King not only makes creative connections between all three, but also contributes innovative new outlines for the theologies of emotion and work.”

Sounds good, Jon.
Thanks. Remember the days when we used to navigate Larry Crabb and Derrida with surf metaphors? Well, I've revisited all that and, hopefully, given it a new, more sophisticated, lease of life.
